Save the Child Foundation - Uganda Initiative

Save The Child Foundation’s Uganda initiative works with various Non-profit organizations that empower kids and women from marginalized communities. These organizations help kids and women to bring change by using the power of education, impartial healthcare, proper sanitation and Self-sustanibilty that helps them as well as their communities.

Today Save the Child Foundation’s Uganda initiative has successfully educated more than 45 kids to complete their high school and more than 35 kids were able to go back to school after dropping out due to lack of financial resources. More than 500k reusable pads were distributed in the last 5 years, which helped girls and women with period poverty.

We at Save The child foundation’s Uganda initiative believes that marginalized communities deserve equal opportunity of Education, Healthcare and Sanitation.

Our Programs

EDUCATION

Save The Child Foundation in collaboration with various partner organizations, have been supporting children with education. These children come from financially weaker sections, who generally are not able to access even basic facilities like housing, water supply and proper meals. We help our partner organizations to raise funds for education, while our partner organizations help us to identify and reach out to such kids and facilitate them on ground.

Save The Child Foundation connects children from Africa with changemakers and helps them in understanding different scopes in their respective fields of interests. We believe that each and every kid deserves education and so, no kid should be left behind and thus, Education is our primary area of focus. We also try to connect these children to the other side of the world where Save The Child has already been in collaboration and try to help these children to discover more about the world, more beyond education, more beyond Africa.

GENDER EQUALITY

We at Save The Child Foundation believe that women play an important role in the development of a nation and thus, women empowerment is one of our core beliefs. After education the other area that we work with our partner organizations at Uganda is women empowerment. In the past 3 years, we have continuously supported women by providing them with sewing machines and getting goats this helps them with sustainability and being independent.

In Uganda, tailoring hub is a booming business, but there are not many industries to cater the needs. We, with our partners, have successfully identified this problem and are working towards training young women, single mothers, women from vulnerable backgrounds and helping them to build a self sustainable business model and help them to lead independent lives. We believe in these women, their skills and their hard work, and so, in the long term, we are hoping to connect these women to our donors in western parts of the globe, which would help these women to grow and spread their business in different parts of the world.

HEALTH AND SANITATION

Along with education, health and sanitation are the major problems that these kids and women from Uganda are facing. We realized this as a potential problem in 2022, when our team was on ground to support Menstrual Hygiene Day (MHM Day); we had supported girls and women from different community by providing them reusable pads, and organizing various sessions related to their menstrual as well as sexual health. We have been collaborating with AfriPads to support women and have recently introduced Menstrual cups to women here. We hope to soon support them with cups as it will help us to reach more women and would be much easier to use, considering the water crisis they face when they use sanitary pads.

Alongside period poverty, another major issue that kids and women suffer is from HIV and AIDS. There aren't proper health care services and those who seek help can’t afford it. We, and our partners educate and create programs that helps to bring young leaders forward to volunteer in health camps, awareness campaigns and to reach out to communities incases of emergencies.
